How to wrap a side mirror with PPF film with no visible seams
Irregularly shaped parts such as side mirrors are one of the biggest challenges during PPF film application. In this article we cover the bulk-film application technique - without using pre-cut kits - using ADBL Protect Shield PPF film and ADBL PPF Gel.

Irregularly shaped parts such as side mirrors are one of the biggest challenges during PPF film application. In this article we cover the bulk-film application technique - without using pre-cut kits - using ADBL Protect Shield PPF film and ADBL PPF Gel.
SURFACE PREPARATION

We start by thoroughly cleaning, polishing and degreasing the mirror surface. Any loose dust or contamination can cause a micro-defect that will be visible under the film. We repeat the water spray and squeegeeing several times to make sure the surface is completely clean.
BULK-FILM APPLICATION
In the bulk-film technique the film is cut to the shape of the part by hand. We apply ADBL PPF Gel to the mirror surface, which allows for a longer working time without the risk of damaging the adhesive. The film is laid directly onto the gel, so it can be repositioned and moved multiple times.
LOCKING AND STRETCHING THE FILM

The first application step is to lock the film on one of the edges. Then, with gentle movements, the film is stretched towards the opposite edge with controlled tension. It is important not to use isopropyl alcohol for locking - the combination of the film and the ADBL gel provides enough adhesion without any additional agents.
SQUEEGEEING AND SMOOTHING
We squeegee the film slowly, working from the centre towards the edges to push out the gel and air. Thanks to the slippery structure of PPF Gel, the film does not grab the surface, which helps avoid creases, distortions and suction points in the adhesive.
FINISHING AND SEALING THE EDGES
After application, the mirror is rinsed with water and the edges are thoroughly cleaned. After about 15-20 minutes we tape around the edges, pressing gently with a squeegee. Once the film has dried, the edges are heated with a heat gun, which ensures a full bond and eliminates the risk of the film lifting later on.
SUMMARY
The bulk-film application technique lets you achieve a perfect result - with no visible seams or cuts on the surface. Combined with ADBL Protect Shield PPF and ADBL PPF Gel, it guarantees full control over the film, high gloss and a clean finish on every part.
